Understanding Capacity and Load Requirements

Beyond flat dimensions, consider the volume and weight your bag needs to carry. A medium-sized polyester drawstring bag (35 × 45 cm) can comfortably hold a pair of trainers plus a change of clothes -- approximately 5 to 8 litres of volume and up to 3 to 5 kg of load. For heavier items, we recommend upgrading to 420D or Oxford polyester with reinforced double-stitched seams and metal eyelets rather than plastic grommets to prevent tearing at the cord entry points.

Gusset Options for Extra Capacity

Standard drawstring bags are flat (no gusset), which keeps them slim and easy to store. However, if your product requires genuine 3D volume -- for example, carrying sports balls, bulky apparel, or packaged food items -- we can add a bottom gusset or side gussets. A 10 cm bottom gusset on a 35 × 45 cm bag nearly doubles its effective carrying capacity while maintaining the classic drawstring silhouette when empty.

Logo Placement and Size Considerations

The bag's dimensions also determine the maximum print area for your logo or artwork. As a general rule, the print area should not exceed 70% of the bag's width and should be centred between the top hem (cord channel) and the bottom seam. For small bags, a simple one-colour logo works best; medium and large bags provide enough canvas for multi-colour designs, photographic prints (via sublimation on polyester), or all-over pattern printing.

Understanding how custom drawstring bags are made helps buyers plan lead times, order quantities, and quality requirements. Stage 1: Design Confirmation and Technical Specification

Each order begins with a technical specification sheet covering bag dimensions, material type and GSM, drawstring material and colour, eyelet style, printing method, Pantone colour references, and any special features such as inner pockets, linings, or reinforced bases.

Artwork files (AI, EPS, or PDF preferred) are reviewed by the production team before manufacturing. A digital proof or mockup is prepared for customer approval to help ensure all specifications are confirmed before production starts. This stage typically takes 1 to 2 business days.

Stage 2: Raw Material Procurement and Incoming Quality Control (IQC)

After specifications are approved, the required materials are arranged, including fabric, drawstrings, eyelets, and other accessories.

Incoming materials are checked against the approved specifications. Inspection items may include fabric colour, fabric weight, drawstring appearance, eyelet size, and other key requirements relevant to the order. Materials that meet the specified requirements are released to production.

For commonly stocked materials, preparation usually takes 3 to 5 days. Special-order materials may require 7 to 14 days depending on supplier availability.

Stage 3: Fabric Printing

For printed orders, printing is typically completed before cutting. Printing on larger fabric panels helps maintain colour consistency throughout the production run.

The printing method is selected according to artwork requirements, material type, order quantity, and budget.

• Screen Printing - Suitable for simple designs with limited colours on non-woven, cotton, canvas, or polyester materials. Commonly used for medium and large-volume orders.
• Lamination Printing (Flexographic Printing) - Often used for laminated non-woven bags. A printed film is laminated onto the fabric surface to achieve full-colour graphics.
• Heat Transfer Printing - Suitable for detailed multi-colour designs, especially on polyester materials.
• Sublimation Printing - Primarily used on 100% polyester fabrics for full-surface printing. The ink penetrates the fibres rather than sitting on the surface.
• Digital Printing - Suitable for detailed artwork and smaller production runs without requiring screen preparation.

Our factory operates multiple printing lines, including screen printing and other printing equipment. Printed materials are checked for basic colour consistency and print quality before moving to the next stage.

Stage 4: Cutting

After printing, the material is cut according to approved dimensions and production requirements.

Different materials may require different cutting methods. Non-woven fabrics are often cut using ultrasonic cutting equipment, which can help seal the edges during the cutting process. Canvas, cotton, and polyester materials are generally cut using conventional cutting equipment and finished during the sewing stage.

Careful cutting helps improve material utilization and supports consistent product dimensions throughout the order.

Stage 5: Bag Assembly and Sewing

After cutting, the bag components move to assembly.

For standard drawstring bags, the general production sequence includes:

1. Sewing the side seams
2. Sewing the bottom seam
3. Forming the drawstring channel at the top
4. Installing eyelets if required
5. Threading the drawstring cord
6. Finishing and trimming

Additional features such as inner pockets, linings, reinforced corners, or base panels are incorporated during the appropriate production stages.

For some non-woven drawstring bag styles, ultrasonic bonding may be used for certain seams, depending on the product design and construction requirements.

Stage 6: Quality Inspection

Quality checks are carried out during production and before packing.

Inspection items may include dimensions, stitching appearance, print quality, drawstring function, eyelet installation, and overall workmanship. Inspection procedures are performed according to the agreed product specifications and applicable quality requirements.

Any issues identified during inspection are reviewed and addressed before the products proceed to packing. Inspection photos or reports may be provided when requested.

Stage 7: Packing and Shipment Preparation

Finished bags are packed according to customer requirements and export shipping standards.

Products are counted, folded where appropriate, and packed into export cartons designed for transportation and storage. Cartons may be labelled with product information, carton marks, barcodes, or customer-specific SKU labels when required.

Before shipment, packing lists, commercial invoices, and other relevant shipping documents are prepared. Our team coordinates with freight forwarders and logistics partners to arrange transportation by sea, air, rail, or express services depending on the destination and customer requirements.

We support FOB, CIF, and DDP shipping terms and can assist with export documentation where applicable.

The total lead time from order confirmation to cargo-ready is typically 25 to 35 days, depending on order quantity, material availability, product complexity, and printing requirements. For urgent projects, production schedules may be adjusted subject to factory capacity. Production updates and shipment information are provided throughout the order process.
